Weekly Photo Challenge: Object
In this week’s challenge, I’d like you to use one tangible object as both your inspiration and subject. It can be the obvious focal point of your shot . Or you can get creative and find other ways to feature your object — the only requirement is it must be somewhere in your frame.
Hello all
Have you ever noticed how many OBJECTS you collect over the years? Well, I certainly have collected a few! Some of my favourites are a pottery vase I bought in a tiny little Gallery in the small town of Ulmarra (NSW) as my husband and I travelled down the east coast of Australia. The Gallery is gone now but I bought many lovely objects from this shop down through the years.
I also have a bottle in the shape of a guitar which we bought in Spain full of sangria, drank the alcohol and brought home the empty bottle as a keepsake (despite our luggage being overweight) … now I can’t part with it because it brings back wonderful memories of that holiday overseas.
But there are other OBJECTS which sort of came … and stayed. They are not particularly valuable and they do not even evoke wonderful memories, they just become part of the household that makes our house unique. The three photos I share today are of the latter variety. They came and they stayed … and they are all talking points in the house.
Sometimes, I wonder why one of these objects have stayed – the FLY – a gift from a friend, but it has been with us for a few years now and my husband rather likes it, so what can you do? This one is an OBJECT that I can do without but it is definitely a talking point so it earns it’s place on this score.
The second object – the ROCK – was not intended for our house but I never gave it to the intended recipient. It was inexpensive but it just grew on me and then I couldn’t part with it as it reminded me to laugh and be happy. So this is a reminder OBJECT and people do notice it and comment.
The third object – the STINGER (blue-bottle type sea creature) – captured my fancy in a gift shop when I was visiting my daughter in Townsville without my husband. I wanted to bring him back something … but have you ever tried to shop for a man for a souvenir? Almost impossible! But I just knew Geoff would LOVE this stinger in a glass resin mould. It too is a great talking point and people often ask “What is it?”and a conversation always ensues.
I love OBJECTS as talking points dear friends! But then again, if I am going to be honest with myself, I am a very curious person who likes to be surrounded by objects which cause other people to be curious too … objects which start up conversation and discussion. I have to say that these three object tick all the boxes for OBJECTS AS TALKING POINTS. Enjoy the larger photos below.
