Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned

Hello all

WordPress asks us this week to share a photo that shows us abandoned. I remembered I had some photos of abandoned vehicles in the country and both Geoff and I were drawn to them and took photos at the time. Therefore, today I have retrieved them to share for the Weekly Photo Challenge. I must be feeling a lot better because as soon as I put them on my blog, a little verse began to form in my head! I simply cannot help myself.

I do hope you enjoy this week’s Photo Challenge all about those poor old abandoned vehicles that once were loved.

ABANDONED VEHICLES

Abandoned vehicles … what does this mean?

And what does it conjure up for us?

A sense of sadness of what once was …

Someone loved these vehicles in another era of time

Brought them home ‘brand spanking new’ from the showroom

Loved them like part of the family

Cleaned them and polished them

Reveled in the hum of the brand new engine

And the shiny new paint work on the body

Taking pride in owning the latest model

But then … time passed

The vehicles may have been damaged in accidents

Yet not old, they were fixed and made new again

And perhaps again … and again

But after many years had gone by

The vehicles got old and the paintwork scratched

And no longer were they considered worth fixing

The engines no longer hummed as before

Instead they roared loudly

And one day they gave up the ghost … and died … forever

What happened next you might ask?

Someone towed them to a spot in the country

Where there was plenty of spare land

Out of sight of the house and its occupants

And there, my dear friends …

They were ABANDONED

There were good intentions to restore them one day

But somehow, that day never came

So now they sit and rust

In a field

No longer cared for … or about

ABANDONED

Their useful life is over

They sit … unloved

A shadow of their former selves

Waiting for some keen photographer

To come along and find them ‘interesting’

Old … decrepit … but somehow rustic

So they can be the subject of a weekly photo challenge

With the title of: ABANDONED!

An abandoned old bus which we saw whilst travelling in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales in the little town of Morpeth. Love the bee boxes in front of the bus. How old would this old-fashioned bus be I wonder? I had a romantic view of it picking country children up to and from school but really, I have no idea what it’s use was.

Geoff captured these photos when we were staying on a property outside of Oakey in Queensland Australia. They belonged to the family and the chap involved was hoping to do them up one day. I wish him luck with that one!

Geoff captured these photos when we were staying on a property outside of Oakey in Queensland Australia. They belonged to the family who owned the property; a relative was hoping to do them up one day. I wish him luck with that one as they have there for years and don’t look like going anywhere.

A close up of the side of one of the old cars ... well truck actually.

A close up of the side of one of the old cars … well truck (utility) actually. I have a feeling this is their last resting place. R.I.P
