Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life

A place reveals itself on its streets, from pedestrians strolling during lunch time, to performers entertaining tourists on sidewalks, to the bustle of local markets, and more. Whether you’re shoveling snow from your own driveway or walking a familiar route to work or getting lost in a foreign city, a snapshot of a street (or road or path) can tell a tale.

In a post created specifically for this challenge, share a photo that brings a street to life.

Hello all

Geoff has been moving photos off my computer onto DVD these last few days which led me to find some street scenes that I didn’t realise I had, therefore even though it’s a bit late for last week’s challenge, I couldn’t resist sharing them with you.

These photos were taken on an overseas holiday in 2008 which included a 7 day cruise from Venice to Istanbul. They were taken in the cities of Venice and Istanbul … fascinating towns to be sure.

You know, there is nothing like going to a different country to immerse yourself in the STREET LIFE you find there. Geoff and I would sit and have a coffee in some locations – especially Paris – and watch people going by. One thing we noticed in Paris were the number of people eating baguettes as they walked along. Lunch on the run it seemed!

In Italy and Greece, in the smaller towns, there would be old men gathered – just as you see in movies – chatting and playing chess … or the most popular pastime of all: smoking!

So today dear friends, after a huge workout this morning, for the second last Saturday of the Gym Challenge, I have summoned up the energy to present to you: STREET LIFE. Enjoy!

I love this photo of San Marco Square on the island of Venice. I took it from the top deck of the cruise ship as we sailed down the river and out to sea. Venice is a magical place! This is STREET LIFE at its best. I grant you that the street life it was full of tourists but that makes it even more interesting.

On our cruise we docked at Istanbull and did a bus tour of the city. When we stopped at the lights, here was a Turkish woman weaving on the street right in the middle of people coming and going.
